I bet some of you can guess the next few catastrophes to befall us...
So, Friday night the ceiling caved in. A little after midnight. Since no one will come out then to deal with things (despite the fact that we called several roofing companies who say they have 24 hour emergency service...when we reached them, they said things like "well, it's not really 24 hour service") I had to call 911 and get the fire department out here. They poked holes in the insulation to get water to drain faster so that the roof would not collapse.
Next, Saturday's fun adventures...
The basement flooded when the sump pump died. That means new sump pump installation and other assorted related matters. We were on a long list at the plumbers (a plug here for HUB Plumbing and Mechanical...they really are an incredible company and they do really good work), so they showed up about 11pm and stayed until 2am. That's another $1100.
Meanwhile, a leak sprung in the next room over from the one currently lacking a ceiling. Sigh.
On top of all this, we need to figure out some money/legal issues. The owners of the top unit want to pay the girls back for damaged property and put them up in a hotel while the work gets done. All fine and dandy, but who is paying for it? They want the condo to pay. I'm fairly certain this is not the way things work. If the owner were living there, his homeowner's insurance would pay for damaged property, and I don't know what he would do about living there while the work is done. But, I'm fairly certain the condo wouldn't be paying for it. So why should we pay for his tenants? Does anyone know more about this than me?
Tomorrow I get to argue with our insurance agent, and deal with roofers and other contractors.
It's not that I'm so unhappy to be dealing with all of this, but it's the wrangling with other owners part that is driving me nuts. Next place I live we will be sole owners. I swear.
